Structural Engineering
Post-tensioned and prestressed concrete; seismic mitigation; fiber-reinforced systems; monostrand anchorage; inverted-U-shaped reinforcement.
Methodology
- ACI 318 and Eurocode 2 verification on every design review
- Inverted-U-shaped reinforcement methodology (Khatib, Case Studies in Construction Materials, 2020)
- Monostrand anchorage re-validation (Khatib, Heliyon, 2024)
- Finite-element re-analysis using ETABS, ABAQUS, ANSYS
Representative work
- Post-tensioned flat-slab serviceability remediation (published methodology)
- Inverted-U shear-strength enhancement — book and 2020 paper
- Monostrand anchorage in unbonded post-tension flat-slab systems (Heliyon 2024)
- AI-assisted seismic isolator optimization (forthcoming, EC8 / UBC-97)
When this engagement makes sense
- A serviceability or shear-capacity finding needs an independent peer-grounded re-analysis.
- A design verification must withstand a sworn deposition.
- An academic collaboration requires an industry co-author with stamped credentials.
Most of the post-tensioned slabs that arrive on a verification desk do not have exotic problems. Anchorage slip. Monostrand zone reinforcement that didn't make it from the design office to the pour. Corner deflection drifting past L/240. The interventions are well-documented in ACI 318 and the Lebanese seismic provisions. The reports are not always.
If you carry ten storeys of post-tensioned slab and a 90-day deflection trend you do not like, the next phone call is cheap and the next month is not.
